Default DIY: Easy MOD for colder AC

We all know the AC in the 8 is not the greatest. I have had this done on my car for sometime now and I am very happy with the result.

Things you will need:

1. Bag of small cable ties
2. Insulation (I chose a silver heat resistant fabris used for automotive insulation)

Basically wrap the AC tube that runs along the firewall with the insulation then place the cable ties throughout the insulation. I spaced mine about 2-3 inches apart. I also cut out a small notch for the "knob" that is on the tube.

I have attached a photo to help.

I notice a difference in cooling and the tempature does not change like it did before. So far for about $20 bucks it is one of the better things I have done.

Do you have anymore info on the material you used? I have never seen such a thing...is it readily available at auto parts places?

I agree that the AC in the car is anemic at best...

I had the A/C amplifier tsb done on my car and it make a BIG difference. Instead of just cool air blowing (before replacing amplifier) it now blows really COLD air.

Why not just have the A/C amp tsb done?

Hmmm I wonder ... is it a placebo effect or is there real science behind it?

My car had the tsb done prior to me picking it up, when it sits in the hot florida sun it never cooled down. Doing this helped the air temp drop a few degrees.

I bought this materail at my local "tuner" shop, he uses it as a heat shield in various places on cars. There are people who have wrapped theirs with a foam pipe insulation and a heat reflective tape from home depot.
