Default Which AutoX Tire?

Which AutoX Tire?

245/35WR18 Kumho ECSTA V710 Blackwall - $240 each?

or

245/40ZR18 Hoosier A3S05 Blackwall - $261 each?

Or... should I get wider wheels and go for something like 275s.

No one has really run the 245 Hoosier. I've run the 275 Hoosier and it's not as fast as the 245 710. When you add the tire wear difference (36 runs to cord for Hoosier vs. 100+ for the 710) there's not much of a choice there.

275 Hoosiers fit on the stock rims. Pretty much nothing else that wide will fit, even 255s and 265s can be a problem though I've had 265 V700s on stock rims. Going to non-stock rim sizes would put you in BSP up against 400hp C4 vettes. Pretty tough competition unless you're prepared to spend 15k on the car.

(My bad, looking at you're photo you're already in BSP, though you might think about STU. No vettes there, but you still have the EVO's and STi's to deal with.)

Yes, I ran BSP last week because I had 245s which exceeded the 225 max for Street Touring. Otherwise, I would have run STU because of my suspension and intake mods.

I would consider going back to 225 so I can run STU but the smallest Ecsta V710 they make in 18" diameter is a 245 so I'm stuck!

I might as well put a 10" wheel on the back and run an Ecsta V710 285/30R18 tire (if it will fit). and stay in BSP.

Will 285 fit?

Ok.. they'll fit. Mazdatrix runs 285/30s on 18" on all four corners.

Whoa there!

The RX-8 is in Street Touring Ultra (STU) which has a liimit 275 on treadwidth, not 225. If you want to run in STU then go with the 275 Kumho MX which will fit on the stock wheels and is fairly inexpensive. Not the fastest tire for STU but good enough while your learning.

Otherwise do the 285 V710s for BSP

My mistake - you are correct. I misunderstood the rules and misclassed myself. I will be running STU for now and will consider the Kumho MX.

I eventually want the 285 V710s.

The Kumho MX 275 will fit on OEM wheels? I had no idea. Really?

Yes it will. Good interim tire until you fully decide what you want to do. Doesn't heat cycle out like the azenis. Not good in the rain though.
